Ankor Project
As part of the Angkor Project, a Department of Education initiative, Dowerin District High School is proud to maintain a Sister School relationship with Hun Sen Chambak High School, located in Kampong Speu—a rural province approximately two hours south of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Catering to students from Years 7 to 12, Hun Sen Chambak High School serves around 800 students.
Through this partnership, Dowerin DHS students actively engage in fundraising efforts to support the development of essential infrastructure at their Sister School, including the installation of toilets, fans, and lighting—improvements that significantly enhance the learning environment and accessibility for Cambodian students.
In addition to student-led initiatives, the Angkor Project provides valuable professional development opportunities for educators. Each January, teachers have the chance to participate in Study Tours to Cambodia, fostering cross-cultural exchange and collaboration. Currently, Miss Emma Grant is working closely with teachers in Kampong Speu to support and strengthen their teaching practices.
Dowerin Field Days
Dowerin District High School is proud to be a central part of the local community and plays an active role in the annual Dowerin Field Days event. Each year, our staff and students enthusiastically participate through a variety of contributions, including the Field Days Trail, choir performances, high school work placements, and the show casing of school-based projects. This event is a highlight on our calendar, offering valuable opportunities for engagement, learning, and community connection.
Community Education
Dowerin District High School is committed to supporting the wellbeing and development of our students by actively engaging with the wider community on issues that directly impact their lives. Where appropriate, the school facilitates community education initiatives that promote awareness and understanding in key areas such as digital safety, Protective Behaviours, and drug education. These programs are delivered in collaboration with expert providers and are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate challenges confidently and responsibly. By fostering strong partnerships and prioritising proactive education, we aim to create a safe, informed, and supportive environment for all students.
Workplace Learning and Work Experience
Each year, our Year 10 students step into real-world workplaces across Dowerin and surrounding areas, gaining hands-on experience and developing essential skills that prepare them for life beyond school. From agriculture and retail to trades and administration, students are welcomed into a variety of industries where they learn the value of hard work, responsibility, and teamwork.
This program wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity of local businesses and community members who open their doors and mentor our students. Their commitment to youth development not only enriches our students’ learning but also strengthens the bond between our school and the wider community. We are proud of the strong partnerships we’ve built and grateful for the role our community plays in shaping the next generation.
