Career Taster Program
Each term, Year 9 and Year 10 students have the opportunity to engage in a Career Taster Program (CTP). These workshops aim to inspire students to become ‘career curious’ about further study opportunities and potential careers.
The program offers:
- Industry-led experiences and activities: Introducing students to new and diverse areas of work and career opportunities.
- Career development training: Assisting students in making informed decisions about their subject selections and post-school options.
The CTP provides teachers, schools, and industry with a flexible framework that enables students to learn about different industries, current and emerging occupations, and career pathways. It also helps in implementing and delivering the CTP in a way that aligns with student needs.
Keys for Life
We are proud to deliver the Keys for Life program each year. This evidence-based program helps prepare students for the responsibilities of driving by promoting safe road use, responsible decision-making, and an understanding of the Graduated Driver Training and Licensing System in Western Australia.
Through engaging lessons and practical activities, students gain valuable knowledge and skills that support their journey toward becoming safe and responsible drivers. Participation in this program is an important step in fostering independence and safety in our young people.
Workplace Learning
At Dowerin District High School, our Year 10 students participate in the Authority-Developed Workplace Learning (ADWPL) program through SIDE. In Semester 1, students complete the Work Studies theory component, followed by practical work placements in Semester 2. Placements can be arranged outside of Dowerin if parents find suitable employers and have transport available.
Workplace learning helps students identify their interests for further exploration and highlights areas they may not be suited to or interested in. The hours completed contribute to points for their Year 12 WA Certificate of Education. These placements develop work readiness skills and employability skills for the future.
